The village of villa vomano, municipality of teramo (te) abruzzo

Villa Vomano is a small village in the province of Teramoin the Abruzzo region of central Italy. It is a frazione of the town of Teramo. The village lies about 10 miles from Teramo, the provincial capital. It sits on the left bank of the Vomano River along State Road A stone bridge connects Villa Vomano to the adjacent village of Val Vomano sitting on the opposite bank of the Vomano river. This bridge was the scene of an event deemed by many to be miraculous in nature.

A bus filled with tourists making a pilgrimage to the sanctuary of Saint Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows had a tragic accident and slid nearly completely off the bridge. For some time it remained precariously balanced 35 feet above the Vomano River below and a rescue mission ended in success.

Amazingly, no one was seriously injured and in appreciation a statue dedicated to the saint was erected along one of the banks of the river. Given its close proximity to the highway running from Teramo to RomeVilla Vomano in recent years has increased greatly in population and witnessed a good deal of building construction. Since it is located right at the entrance of the National Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga is also the starting point of the so-called Strada Maestra del Parco, a route that unfolds along the old highway 80 Teramo-L'Aquila that unites Montorio ad Amiternum passing through the evocative Passo delle Capannelle and that follows roughly the ancient Via Cecilia built by the Romans.

Along the way you will find equipped rest areas and restored highway houses transformed into information points and guest houses, as well as enchanting landscapes and beautiful landscapes, to be admired by car, motorbike or bicycle.

Montorio al Vomano and the surrounding area are lands of ancient human settlement. In pre-Roman times the Pretuziano people settled here, precisely on the left bank of the Vomano river, while the right one marked the beginning of the territories populated by Vestini. For some historians and scholars the original historical center of the town was perched on a hill on the site of the ancient Beregra or Beretra mentioned by Ptolemy when he states that "[ Even today Montorio dedicates a memory to this historical anecdote having named one of its main streets "Via Beretra".

Subsequently, in Roman times, it was destroyed in the war against the Goths led by Belisarius and Narses, generals of Justinian, and virtually nothing remained of the village. But always in Roman times it flourished again and, given its strategic position, it became an important commercial and handicraft crossroads, also attested by the presence of a temple erected in honor of Ercole, of which some remains can still be seen in the Salara district.

In the early Middle Ages it was known as Mons Aureus, or "Monte d'Oro", from which it subsequently derived its current name. From to the early s it was a fief of the Camponeschi of L'Aquila, but the prerogatives of this noble family on the territory were not always peaceful. Inin fact, there was the so-called "conspiracy of the Barons", ie the uprising against some new taxes decided by Alfonso of Aragon that led, on May 7 of that year, to a real armed conflict near the inhabited.

Later, as a result of the marriage of Vittoria Camponeschi with Giovanni Carafa, it passed to the Carafa of Naples and later it was a fief of the Caracciolo family, always from Naples and then from the Crescenzi of Rome until the early s when Napoleon abolished feudalism. During the Risorgimento, Montorio participated in some way to the patriotic events and the unitary process, including some arrested and killed among its citizens, including the doctor and scientist Francesco Martegiani, who died in prison in The most popular dishes in Montorio al Vomano are fully integrated into the Teramo culinary tradition, thus favoring the first and second courses of meat.

Weather and weather forecast for the municipality of Castellalto, to whom Castelnuovo Vomano belongs.Municipality of about 1, inhabitants located at m s. The territory in which Cermignano rises was inhabited already in pre-Roman times by the Adriatic Sabines, who had obtained a cult area on nearby Mount Jupiter including a temple dedicated to Jupiter, almost certainly the largest offshore sanctuary built by this people.

It seems then that in late Roman times there existed in the vicinity of the current village a villa of a certain Germanianus, from which derives the name Cermignano, whose first official mentions date back to the mid-twelfth century. Given its strategic position, Cermignano and its two main hamlets, namely Montegualtieri and Poggio delle Rose, immediately played an important and recognized defensive function testified by the traces of the fortified plant of the capital, from the ruins of the ancient castle of Poggio delle Rose and above all from the triangular tower of Montegualtieri, still well preserved and a destination for tourist visits.

Cermignano, from the point of view of gastronomy, fits perfectly in the furrow of traditional Teramo cuisine, but also presents reworked and particularly succulent dishes. To be noted the "crespelle in brodo", the "ravioli salati", the "fregnacce", to which until a few years ago a festival was reserved, and the "li cillitte" small birds of Sant'Antonio Abate, typical desserts stuffed with the typical Abruzzese grape jam the "scrucchiata" dedicated to the cult of the patron saint of animals and peasants, which is celebrated on January 17th.

On this occasion the tradition of cultural research on the songs of begging related to the cult of the Saint is continued, with itinerant folk groups, musicians and theaters that recall, for the lanes of the quaint village of Teramo, the temptations of the Hermit and the eternal struggle between Good and evil. Here is the recipe to prepare the traditional birds "li cillitte" of Sant'Antonio. For the dough: g of flour, ml of extra virgin olive oil, ml of white wine, 3 tablespoons of sugar, 1 pinch of salt.

For the filling: g of grape jam, g of toasted and chopped almonds, 50 g of grated bitter chocolate, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 2 tablespoons of rum, grated orange peel. Preparation: Place the flour in the fountain on the work surface. In the middle, pour the oil, the wine, add the sugar and a pinch of salt.

Mix the ingredients by incorporating the flour and forming a soft dough. Leave to rest under a heated bowl with boiling water and dried. For the filling: heat the jam in a saucepan, add the almonds, the chocolate, the cinnamon, the rum, the orange peel.

Mix the ingredients on low heat and then allow to cool. Roll out the dough making a very thin sheet. Cut the pastry into squares of 15 cm each side. In the center of each diagonally arrange a spoonful of stuffing. Fold an angle inward, wrapping the filling, roll up and bring the two ends upward. One will be the head the other the tail of the little bird. Mark the tail with the knife and use scissors to make incisions in the center of the bird.

Arrange the desserts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cook for about 20 minutes. A peculiarity of Cermignano, which around the middle of the nineteenth century made the town an important reference point for textile companies, is the art of bobbin work, now confined to the family tradition.Where is: it is a municipality of the Teramo coast, it stretches north of Vomano river estuary.
